Once on the New York subway, a vagrant started picking on me. I was oblivious but apparently, he was grumbling about "cutting me" with a little penknife he had (apparently, he thought I had stared at him. In fact, I was reading and only moved my feet to allow him by). One of the other passengers further down the car distracted him by telling him to leave me alone and keeping up a banter with him.

At one point, he said to the guy "Just because your s**t shines doesn't mean it's made of gold..." completely cracked me up and whenever I think about someone getting too full of themselves, I think of that quote.

There is a lot of construction everywhere I try to go these days, but fortunately the roads are not totally closed. I keep telling myself at least these workers have jobs—doesn't help—still frustrating. ;)

The husband has been complaining about his complicated life; Grandma wanders into the room

Grandma: Up, down, up, down. Oh, what a ride!
Gil: What a great story.
Grandma: I always wanted to go again. You know, it was just so interesting to me that a ride could make me so frightened, so scared, so sick, so excited, and so thrilled all together! Some didn't like it. They went on the merry-go-round. That just goes around. Nothing. I like the roller coaster. You get more out of it.

Seems as though you were on the roller coaster and your life is all the richer for it.
